Mississippi State picked up a great cover for us in their last outing on the road against Baylor, taking down the Bears in upset fashion by a final of 78-77. In their NIT opener Mississippi State got past Nebraska by a final of 66-59 and now after beating teams from the Big Ten and Big 12, the Bulldogs will take a crack at the ACC in today’s matchup. Mississippi State is a bit more enthusiastic about being in the NIT than their opposition and on the year the Bulldogs stand 176th in the nation in scoring compared to 59th in total defense. As a team Louisville voted not to participate in the NIT, but the school took the invite and the Cardinals have come through thus far on their home court taking down NKU and MTSU. We feel like Louisville’s mindset coming into the NIT will catch up with them sooner rather than later, but the Cardinals have been able to get the job done up to this point. Louisville fell well short of their expectations this season and on the year the Cardinals have been a balanced group ranking 105th in the nation in scoring and 111th in total defense. We feel Mississippi State has the defensive strengths to turn this into a lower scoring half court battle giving these points a bit more value. In what should be a competitive contest between the SEC and ACC we like Mississippi State to come through for us again as the Bulldogs go on to cover the spread.
