Texas Tech grabbed a strong cover for us in their last outing with the Red Raiders upsetting Purdue by a final of 78-65. We had lost a lot of confidence in Texas Tech down the stretch run of the regular season given how they faded in their race for the Big 12 regular season title, but this group has been able to find a spark in the NCAA tournament playing off some great defensive performances. On the year Texas Tech stands 15th in the nation in points allowed compared to141st in scoring and it’ll be interesting to see if the Red Raiders can slow down this powerful Villanova offensive attack.
Villanova has been impressive thus far in the NCAA tournament getting past West Virginia and Alabama in their last two outings by double figures. Villanova dropped 90 points on West Virginia in the Sweet Sixteen and this has been the best offensive team in the country this season averaging 87 points per contest. Villanova has consistently taken their game up a notch when going against tough competition and making a run to the Big East tournament title was a great precursor for the Wildcats as they’ve carried that momentum into the Big Dance.
Even though Texas Tech has shown they can come through when the spotlight is the brightest we’re still a bit hesitant with the Red Raiders given their inconsistencies on the offensive side of the ball. We like Villanova to put up another strong offensive showing as the Wildcats go on to cover.
